Rollstack vs INSYNCR: the cloud and the building

What each is for, what each costs, what each lacks, and which one you need. Written from Rollstack's own published pages, dated.

The short answer

Rollstack builds the deck in the cloud and distributes it. INSYNCR builds it inside PowerPoint on your own machine, so the figures never leave the building. Pick Rollstack if a hosted service suits you and the data is allowed to travel. Pick INSYNCR if it is not, or if what you hand over has to stay an ordinary PowerPoint file that opens for anyone.

What Rollstack is, in one sentence

A cloud service that connects BI tools and spreadsheets (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Metabase, Lightdash, Omni, Excel, Google Sheets) to Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Google Docs, and updates them on a schedule.

What it is used for

  • Scheduled decks and documents from BI dashboards
  • Distribution of the updated files to the people who read them
  • Collections: many versions of a deck at scale
  • AI generated insights on the synced data

Who typically runs it: data and revenue operations teams in SaaS and tech companies that already live in a BI tool and Google Workspace.

What it costs

Standard is $1,250 a month billed annually with 10,000 sync updates a year; Premium (30,000 sync updates) and Enterprise are on request. One week free trial. SOC 2 Type II, AES 256 encryption, SSO on higher tiers.

Does report data leave the building?Yes, through Rollstack's serviceNo

What it lacks for a recurring report

  • A path that keeps the data on your own machines: everything goes through the vendor's cloud, which is the deciding factor for regulated teams and for anything behind a firewall
  • Direct connections to SQL Server, Oracle, Salesforce or SharePoint without a BI layer in between
  • A price a small team can start on: $15,000 a year is the entry
  • Working on an air gapped or locked down desktop

Where Rollstack is better than INSYNCR

  • Scheduling and distribution: it runs without a person pressing Refresh
  • Google Slides and Google Docs as outputs
  • Connecting straight to Looker, Tableau and Power BI objects
  • Scale of generation on a cloud schedule

Which to pick

If your source is a BI dashboard, your outputs include Google Slides, your organization is comfortable routing report data through a SOC 2 cloud service and the budget is there, Rollstack is a fair comparison. If the data may not leave the building, the source is a database or Excel rather than a BI tool, or the team is small, INSYNCR: it runs on the analyst's PC, binds directly, and starts at one seat.

Fair play

We describe Rollstack from its own website and public documentation, dated above, and say nothing about it we have not read there. If something is out of date or unfair, write to info@insyncr.com and we will fix it.

FAQ

Questions people ask before they try it

Does INSYNCR send our data to a cloud?

No. It runs on the user's machine and reads sources with that user's credentials. There is no INSYNCR cloud.

Can INSYNCR run on a schedule?

Refresh is on demand by any Viewer; the Professional plan's command line tool lets IT script a refresh, but there is no hosted scheduler, by design: nothing of yours runs on our servers.

Which is cheaper?

For a small team, INSYNCR by a wide margin: Rollstack's published entry is $1,250 a month. At enterprise scale, ask both for a quote.

Sending this to IT? Everything they ask is on one page. The trial is in the rail above: 7 days, full access, nothing leaves your PC.
