Volume

The report that has to be right, rebuilt by hand every month.

The same deck, every cycle, assembled from exports, screenshots and copy and paste. Below a certain volume people just do it by hand. Above it, the hand is the problem.

How it shows up

  • A working week per cycle spent moving numbers, not reading them
  • One deck per client instead of one template
  • The junior analyst who owns the rebuild leaves, and the process leaves with them
  • The last slide is done on the morning it is due

Why it keeps happening

Every tool in the chain makes a copy: the export copies the database, the paste copies the export, the deck copies the paste. Copies do not know where they came from, so the only way to update one is to make another.

What fixes it

Bind the deck instead of copying into it. Each figure, chart and table tied to its cell, query or field; one template with a filter per client; Snapshot for one file per record; Refresh for the next cycle. The volume stops mattering because the volume is a loop, not a person.

The test

If you cannot tell, for any number on any slide, which cell or query it came from, the deck is copied, not linked. Everything else follows from that.

FAQ

Questions people ask before they try it

Is this only for large teams?

No. The threshold is the recurrence, not the size. A one person office producing 300 certificates a term has the same problem as a bank producing 40 client packs a quarter.
